My first hikes
in Washington were in the dark and damp valleys of the
Sauk and Stillaguamish Rivers. I'd never see anyone on these occasions,
and the misty forested slopes had a lonely, forgotten feeling.
The peaks around the abandoned village of Monte Cristo are low but rugged,
and keep drawing me back. Further east, the wilderness DaKobed Range
stretches in a glaciated chain south of Glacier Peak. Still further, the
Entiat and Chelan Ranges feature a more continental climate, often in
sun while the west is socked in cloud.
I define this
region to include Cascade peaks coterminus with Glacier Peak, south to Highway 2.
Trips are arranged in alphabetical
order by mountain and route.
