Peter Chapman's photo of the Washington Pass spires

The North Cascades contain some of the wildest and most beautiful scenery in the state. Pictures of these fabled mountains led me to consider this area the best place in the country to live. The price for exploring this region is high, as the peaks are protected by glaciers, deep brushy valleys, unsettled weather and long hiking approaches.

Unlike the Cascade Alpine Guide (a valuable resource), I define this region to include peaks on the south side of highway 20, going as far south as the Sauk River and Bonanza Peak in the east. Trips are arranged in alphabetical order by mountain and route.
