Iron Creek Exploration

Steve and I explored a rocky gully on the north side of Iron Creek on the approach to Sawtooth Lake. We hoped to establish a new route on one of the towers of the striking, light-colored granite rock. Although we attained the ridge crest, we left the summits untouched. The rock was too friable to place protection in, unfortunately. Any attempt at climbing it would break off an outer later. The rock could be sculpted with your hands!

I've never seen anything like it. It was certainly good exercise though, scratching our way up this loose, sandy gully.
